English born and Berlin based band Cassia’s new single “Gotta Get Through Til Monday” is this week’s Catch of the Week. Having been based in Germany since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, this indie three-piece has been writing, recording, and preparing to follow up last year’s acclaimed Powerlines EP. “Gotta Get Through Til Monday” is the first new track off of their upcoming Magnifier EP, due out this summer.

“Yeah” is the newest single from London four-piece Friedberg and this week’s Catch of the Week. An all-female band described as a mixture of post-punk and alternative rock, Friedberg has been making waves since 2019. “Yeah” comes as a track from the band’s debut EP, simply titled YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH.

LA-based indie rock band Vida Moxy is KX FM’s Artist of the Week!

We asked the alt-pop four piece to share a dish they love to make and they sent us a recipe for the Texas Toast Garlic Bread BBQ Bacon Burger.

Ingredients:

Chopped Parsley

Butter

Minced Garlic

Thick Cut White Bread

Burger Patties

Cheese

Bacon

BBQ Sauce

Onion Crisp

Step One: Making the Garlic Butter

  • Mix a half stick of butter into a small bowl (the amount may vary depending on how many you’re serving).

  • Throw in the chopped parsley and minced garlic.

  • Add a little bit of oil.

Step Two: Toasting the Bread (if you’re using multiple burners or a wider griddle this can be done at the same time as cooking the meat)

  • Apply the garlic butter to the bread and put it on the grill.

  • Wait till the bread gets golden brown and then flip!

(Optional: apply the garlic butter to both sides)

Step Three: Cooking the Meats

  • Cook the bacon (preference on crispness is up to you). I cooked the bacon first solely to use the bacon grease with the burger.

  • Cook the patty for 3 minutes on each side on a medium to high heat. Apply salt and pepper or any form of seasoning of your choice on each side.

  • Pour some Worcester sauce for more flavor!

  • Add cheese

Optional: put a fried egg!

Step 4: Assemble the burger! Add the BBQ sauce and the onion crisps and enjoy!

Check out an exclusive acoustic performance from the band here:

“Johnny & Jonnie,” a tropical new single from Dominican-American singer-songwriter Twin Shadow is this week’s Catch of the Week. Coming about during the ’80s-steeped heyday of chill-wave in the early ’10s, Twin Shadow’s newest single is an upbeat exploration of Caribbean horns and calypso rhythms. Described by the artist as a ballad of two lovers escaping to New Orleans to start a new life, this single paints a portrait of sun-bleached beaches and palm trees.

This week’s Catch of the Week is “Pay Your Way In Pain,” a brand new track from indie superstar St. Vincent. This new single seems to open a new chapter for Annie Clark’s prolific career, mixing ’70s-esque keyboards and harmonies with futuristic bass and synths. This track is the lead single from St. Vincent’s new album Daddy’s Home, due to drop in May of this year.

Pennsylvania-based singer-songwriter Kulick is KX FM’s Artist of the Week!

We asked the musician, producer, and songwriter to share a meal he loves to cook and he sent us instructions on how to make “Sand Eggs.”

Ingredients:

Scrambled Eggs

 Cheese

Toast

Butter

Jelly

Simply slow cook the scrambled eggs, shred the cheese, and pair with toast, butter, and jelly.

I listen to the playlist Coffee Table Jazz when I cook so that I don’t get infuriated!

Check out Kulick’s stripped-down version of “Waiting for You,” played on a Fender Acoustasonic:

Kulick’s album Yelling in a Quiet Neighborhood is also available to stream on Spotify:

Irish alt-rockers Newdad’s new single “Slowly” is this week’s Catch of the Week. Hailing from the west coast of Ireland, Newdad crafts a shoegaze-esque style of alt rock with lush guitars and hazy vocals. This band is worth a listen for fans of bands like Slowdive, diiv, or Nothing.

“Young Libertine” is the newest single from indie super group Left Field Messiah and this week’s Catch of the Week. Comprised of members from Hot Hot Heat, Fitz & The Tantrums, and Wildling, this band’s newest single is a slow burner, reflecting the sounds of the members’ former bands. Mixing funk, soul, and indie rock, “Young Libertine” reflects the eclectic nature of Left Field Messiah.
