KX FM and Ed during the pandemic

We can learn a lot about our town during months of isolation.

One thing we’ve learned is Laguna Beach just might have the best radio station.

One of the many things to be proud of in Laguna is KX FM.

We’ve listened to KX since they started a few years back, and they’ve never sounded better.

Best in the OC for sure, maybe in SoCal, KX FM is delivering everything community radio should, and more.

Though other stations reach bigger audiences, no audience is luckier than Laguna Beach radio listeners.

With Ed in the morning, our station sounds “big time” professional, while still feeling local.

The coverage of the science, the dissemination of fact-based information is as good as it gets.

I have known him for several years through the lens of comedy. Until this period of isolation, I never realized how good he is for, or how important he is to our community. He was the first to call for social distancing, and the wearing of masks. Each day, by giving us the real science and numbers, he dispels fringe conspiracy theories and social media lies.

Big time, real radio. His interviews are the best, epidemiologists, the mayor, economic experts (we haven’t heard him interview a musician in a while, but those were pretty great too).

We were grateful before that he played the best music, and was super entertaining. During this pandemic he has taken the most serious crisis of our generation and given this community the facts, and a voice.

And for that, we are grateful.

This is a story about one of our listeners and members Lance Parker.

Lance is a longtime listener to KX FM and he just became a member in April. Here’s what he said about deciding to sign up:

"When I did my membership, I was super ugly bad sick and was just thinking what I could do besides wallow in my own self pity. Your station was like cream rising to the top of my thoughts!"

But after becoming a member, Lance didn’t get better. Eventually, he got the COVID-19 antibody test and was not surprised to discover that he had it. Fortunately, he’s since made a full recovery.

We send every new member a KX FM branded facemask, and Lance couldn’t help but laugh when he received the ironically perfect gift for his situation.

Lance owns Parker Landscape, but he’s also a musician! He gave us permission to share this original song that he performs here with his family.

True Crime Laguna:

Early this morning, the sign hanging outside our studio window was vandalized by someone who was throwing green oil paint at it. Fortunately, a police officer was driving by at the same time and stopped him. He told the officer that he was trying to cover up the "93.5" because we’re not on that frequency anymore and mentioned something about green being the color of money. He was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation.
