Self-described as “smooth music from the future,” English band PREP’s new track “Year’s Don’t Lie” is this week’s Catch of the Week. A conglomeration of artists from different backgrounds, including hip-hop, house, and pop, PREP’s slick production and addicting melodies are reminiscent of the sophisti-pop and RnB bands of the 70s and 80s, such as Steely Dan and fellow Londoners The Style Council. With dreamy-synths, disco-style guitar leads and and an exquisite sax solo, “Years Don’t Lie” is a perfect soundtrack to a warm sunset at the beach.

Self-described “Swedish bubblegum emo” band Tribe Friday’s newest single “Sleepwalk” is this week’s Catch of the Week. Started as an afterschool project by Swedish teens who wanted to escape the boredom of living in rural Scandinavia, Tribe Friday presents an exciting blend of power pop, indie rock, and garage rock revival, channeling bands like The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys. Evoking feelings of angst and hope, “Sleepwalk” is a perfect single to soundtrack this past year.

Hailing from Utah and currently residing in Los Angeles, alt-rockers Sego’s new track “Model Citizen 101” is this week’s Catch of the Week. Coming in a year after the release of their second LP, Sego Sucks and their first headlining tour, “Model Citizen” is track two of their newest album, Life With Pama brief yet ambitious record about Pam, an eccentric roommate of the band’s singer. Echoing Pam’s wild life, which includes Copacabana-dancing and partying with The Beatles in the ’60s, this track reflects the energy of living with this fascinating roommate.

Los Angeles-based alt-rockers Fast Friends are KX FM’s Artist of the Month!

We asked the eccentric and secretive band to share with us a recipe they love to make, and band member Ryan Spraker took us on a step by step journey on how he likes to prepare the classic Korean dish Kimchi, complete with the unique philosophy and wit only an indie-rocker could provide.

FAST FRIENDS – HOW TO MAKE KIMCHI

  1. Acquire lettuce

  1. Use knife to hack at lettuce until it’s in many many pieces

  1. Put many pieces of lettuce into a large bowl with enough water to cover it

  1. Subsequently add enough salt. In this case I went with 1/4 cup

  2. Let the lettuce soak (for 1-2 hours) and most likely becomes far too salty and gross

  3. Finely grate ginger into a bowl. Don’t know how much/who cares at this point

  1. Do the same thing with garlic again ‘who cares because no/gods no masters’

  1. Be super bad at cutting stuff and totally over it while cutting carrots into matchstick-sized pieces, but also you suck at cooking either way, so grip it and rip it

  1. Put all that stuff with a big bowl with the ruined lettuce after attempting to drain/pressing all the liquid from lettuce

  1. Oh – very integral step is to also add like 4 or 5 teaspoons of Korean red chili flakes called Gochugaru

  2. Use your hands to mix it all up… noice

  3. Pack the slop mix into mason jars as tight as possible and press down. At this point you’ll notice it’s already looking pretty garbage but YOLO

  1. Leave about an inch of room at the top for the gas from the fermentation to do something or whatever… idk I ain’t no science nerd

  2. Put on covers but not too tight because supposedly it’ll explode but I’ve never seen that happen (seems super suss 2 me)

  3. Store for 2-4 days in the same place that The Traveling Wilburys suggest you store your DX7 synth “In a cool dry place”

  1. Feel certain it’s not gonna be good and you should’ve tossed the lettuce from the get go

  2. HIDE YOUR SHAME

THAT’S HOW YOU MAKE KIMCHI!!!!!! ? ? ?

Coming together in an unexpected and genre-defying collaboration, Portland-based band Portugal. The Man’s new single “Who’s Gonna Stop Me,” featuring legendary parody artist and accordionist Weird Al Yankovic is this week’s catch of the week. As the song presents a pleasant chorus and uplifting lyrics, the message of the song is strongly political, calling attention to issues such as climate change, the pandemic, and indigenous rights. As the band puts it themselves on the Youtube description for the track, “Who’s Gonna Stop me” is a project for “indigenous artists, friends, artistic collaborators, ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic, and Indigenous organizations to explore the possibilities of collaboration in this new time.”

Exploring the sounds of dance and indie rock, NYC art-pop duo Beau’s new single “Dance With Me” is this week’s catch of the week. Born from the artistic mecca of Greenwich Village, Beau reflects the diverse sound of their hometown on this track, blending the rhythms and danceability of bands like The Strokes and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. This track is guaranteed to fill the future dancefloors of venues and clubs around the country and beyond.

New Jersey-based indie pop band The Vaughns’ mellow new single “All Weekend” is this week’s Catch of the Week. Following the debut of their first album, F.O.M.O. and their recent signing to Equal Vision Records, “All Weekend” finds The Vaughns venturing further into the warm instrumentals and poetic lyrics that define their unique sound as a band. This new single is the perfect soundtrack to lounging on an early autumn afternoon.
