Chicago-based power-pop group Beach Bunny are back with “Blame Game,” a powerful new single and this week’s Catch of the Week. Hot off the heels of their 2020 album Honeymoon, Beach Bunny’s newest single is a “dialogue about sexism,” as singer and guitarist Lili Trifilio puts it. With lyrics touching upon themes of toxic masculinity and relationship dynamics mixed with the band’s signature indie pop sound, “Blame Game” sends a powerful message to start off the year.

Los Angeles-based producer, guitarist, and singer-songwriter Taylor Locke is KX FM’s Artist of the Week!

We asked the prolific musician to share with us a recipe he loves to prepare, and he described a unique way to cook a classic breakfast dish: pancakes.

1. Heat up your griddle and grease it lightly with butter or oil.

2. In a bowl, combine: 1 cup of pancake mix, 1 slightly beaten egg, 1 tablespoon oil, and 1/2 cup of milk.

3. Stir it until it’s no longer lumpy, then let it settle for a few minutes.

4. Pour onto the griddle, let it cook, then flip to cook on the reverse side.

4. Serve it up two ways – syrup, bananas and powdered sugar, or apricot jam, blackberries and powdered sugar.

Or a combination of ALL of the above

Southern California indie-rock stalwarts Cherry Glazerr are back with “Rabbit Hole,” an electronic new single and this week’s Catch of the Week. Beginning last decade as a surf-rock/indie punk outfit in the vein of peers like Chastity Belt and Bleached, this new single finds Cherry Glazerr pursuing a more danceable sound. Catchy hooks, reverb-laden vocals, and pulsing synths mark Cherry Glazerr’s departure from lo-fi indie pop into a more electronic and refined sound.

Kansas-Based Singer-Songwriter Jordana is KX FM’s Artist of the Month!

We asked the up-and-coming indie artist to share with us a recipe she loves to make, and she described a step-by-step process on how she likes to prepare avocado toast, a classic millennial treat.

Recipe:

Cook time 30 mins.

Classic Avocado Toast

U Will Need:

– 4 pieces of bread

– butter

– 1 Lemon

– Parsley

– half an onion

– 5 avocados

– salt

– garlic powder

– lemon pepper seasoning

– sesame seeds

1. First, prepare the toast by putting butter on one side of each piece and putting them on the pan on Medium heat.

2. While those are on the heat, prep your fruits and veggies on a cutting board. Chop up the onion and parsley and cut your lemon into slices.

3. In a separate bowl, peel and crush your avocados into chunky guacamole texture, then you can add your chopped onions (or if it is used as just a topping that is fine too!!).

4. Season your avocados to taste however you enjoy it with your garlic powder, salt and lemon pepper.

5. Check on that bread!! Make sure it’s not burnt! Nah jk flip it over when it’s golden browned and then turn off that heat and let it sit and think about what it’s done…

6. Stir up that avocado, get that bread to a plate, and start scooping the avocado and spreading it all around that toast. Leave the buttered side to the bottom.

7. Top it with your parsley, sesame seeds, add some more onion if you’re feeling frisky, season to taste, garnish your plate with those lemon slices and wallah!!

8. You can use the lemon slices too btw it’s not just for decoration. So squeeze those bad boys on and enjoy a great brunch bursting with flavor. Get some water too. You will need to drink some! 🙂

Light and uplifting, Claud’s new single “Soft Spot” is this week’s Catch of the Week. Once known as “toast,” Claud is an ever-prolific bedroom pop artist recording out of Brooklyn, New York, delivering what they describe as “the kind of pop that goes well with a midnight snack.” “Soft Spot” is the lead single from ‘Super Monster,’ Claud’s new album due out February 12th, 2021 on Saddest Factory Records.

Gentle, groovy, and uniquely psychedelic, The Babe Rainbow’s new single “Zeitgeist” is this week’s Catch of the Week. Formed in the small Australian town of Byron Bay, The Babe Rainbow quickly joined the ranks of their fellow Aussie psych bands such as Tame Impala and King Gizz, making waves with their 2018 masterpiece Double Rainbow. “Zeitgeist” finds the Australian rockers toned down and psyched out, adding layers of rhythmic percussion and divine harmonies atop their signature sound.

East Coast DIY darlings Palberta are back with “Corner Store,” their newest single and this week’s Catch of the Week. Hailing from New York City, Palberta is an indie-punk trio that draws more comparisons to acts like Captain Beefheart and Can than any of their current punk or indie contemporaries. Brief, melodic, and audibly lo-fi, “Corner Store” is as much Beat Happening as it is Parquet Courts.

Belgian indie pop band Balthazar’s new single “Losers” is this week’s Catch of the Week. Following up the success of their 2019 LP, Fever, this Flemish band’s new single is an ode to the lonely, blending somber guitar leads and downhearted lyrics with an electronic dance beat and an irresistible hook. Laid-back and mellow, while danceable throughout, Balthazar’s “Losers” is a perfect theme song for autumn blues.
