Carla Harvey is a Los Angeles based Author, Musician, Artist and Grief Counselor. She got her first break as an Entertainment Reporter for the Playboy Channel. After successfully hosting two television series for the iconic bunny, Harvey took a break to earn her degree in Mortuary Science and explore a career in embalming and funeral directing before going back to her first love: music.  These days, Carla is best known as the co front woman for her band Butcher Babies. When she’s not touring the globe, her passion is comic book art and service to others. She is a Certified Grief Practitioner and runs Los Angeles’ Creative Grief Center.  Growing up with an absent addict father and a step dad she couldn’t get on with she left home and hustled her way through life.  She soon found herself in a situation with Cocaine that led her down a path where she confronted her shame and looked inside herself to now be at 11 years sober.  Death has played a huge role in her life and she brings in a beautiful perspective on life and death and what it means to her to work and give back in the death industry.

 

 

Comedian, TV Writer, New York Times Best Selling Author, Podcaster AND Musician Greg Behrendt joins host Wes Geer to share his story of recovery and cancer survival all whilst navigation bi-polar disorder. With a new podcast ‘Maybe It’s You’ and a new book ‘How to Keep Your Marriage from Sucking’ he will also release his first comedy ‘Why Are You In Here?’ This September.  With an understanding on the affects of his childhood on his disease, he’s careful to take responsibility for his own issues.  He began drinking in his teenage years and quickly developed a taste for the seemingly magic powers alcohol gave him.  His quick success as a comedian and host soon developed into challenging times as he struggled with his drinking and self esteem until the anger, sadness and isolation took him to a bottom and a fear that brought him to his first meeting and into recovery.

From touring the world with LA Guns and Ugly Kid Joe to running stages for Kiss, Sugar Ray and the Scorpions, Tour Manager and Cancer survivor Scott Patterson joins Wes Geer to share his story of alcohol and drug addiction.  From growing up in a privileged but violent household, Scott talks openly about shame and resentment and behavioral issues that played into his disease.  After 7 years sober he slipped for one day and re-entered a program until 18 months later he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.  That slip saved his life when his new commitment to sobriety helped carry him through the fight for his life.  After Camp Freddy (Dave Navarro, Matt Sorum, Billy Morrison, Donovan Leitch, Chris Chaney) held a benefit concert for him and set an example of sobriety, integrity and honesty, his gratitude and humility has carried him into his 17th year sober.

KROQ Radio Personality and Ex-Loveline host Mike Catherwood joins host Wes Geer to talk about his battles with addiction.  After starting drinking at an early age, his substance abuse kick started throughout his teenage years.  With his cocaine and alcohol use out of control, he hit rock bottom after he drove loaded into a tree and entered rehab for the first time. After relapsing 2 months later, he soon realized he needed help, entering rehab a second time. ATF Retired Special Agent Jay Dobyns talks to Rock To Recovery on the back of the re-release of his book ‘No Angel’.  After just 4 days on the job, Jay was shot through the chest by a criminal suspect.  Rejecting any idea of retirement or making money off of his agency, he returned to work and ultimately carried out more than 500 undercover operations including his most notorious work infiltrating the inner circle of the Hells Angels.  After jeopardizing his family in return for the operation and the overwhelming pressures that came with it, he ultimately hit bottom.  Alcohol, prescription medication and a foiled suicide plan.  Hear his harrowing, inspiring and unbelievable story.
