Ivan & Alyosha live in studio interview

Yesterday, on their day off between shows in San Diego & Los Angeles, Seattle-based indie/folk band Ivan & Alyosha popped into the KX FM 104.7 studio to play 3 songs live and chat with Mid-Day Show host Jason Feddy about touring, family, and of course, songwriting.

Despite the band’s name, Ivan & Alyosha are not a musical duo of two people named Ivan and Alyosha (the name comes from Dostoyevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov), though they did start out as a twosome when they formed in 2007. Lead vocalist Tim Wilson & guitarist Ryan Carbary were joined by guitarist Pete Wilson (Tim’s brother), bassist Tim Kim, and drummer Cole Mauro. The band released their sophomore album, It’s All Just Pretendlast month, and it’s a doozy.

In their discussion, Jason commented that one of the songs the group performed live, “Bury Me Deep”, is his favorite on the new record. Songwriter Peter Wilson said he drew his inspiration for the soul-searching lyrics from meeting people who didn’t blame current circumstances on past experiences and the desire to leave behind a legacy, to get one’s point across, even posthumously.
